Alternative Spring Breaks

Looking for a meaningful way to spend your spring break?  Want to get your hands dirty and make the world a better place?  Each year Rutgers Hillel runs a number of exciting trips for students.

Our Alternative Spring Breaks combine international travel, hands-on volunteer work, and Jewish social justice.  Past years’ trips have included El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Israel, and New Orleans.

We are excited to announce service opportunities for this academic year.

Jewish Disaster Response Corps

The JDRC is a faith-based initiative that assists all communities in domestic disaster recovery while exhibiting Jewish values and promoting broad and visible Jewish participation. The JDRC provides a Jewish partner for institutions and individuals to work with, thus filling the gap between disaster response and the Jewish community’s commitment to help others, as it would want to be helped.

Eager to return to Israel?  Join the JNF trip to Israel where we will engage in a week of service-learning in the Negev desert. Previous JNF Alternative Break projects have included working with economically disadvantaged Ethiopians, renovating low-income housing and community spaces, transforming a garbage dump into an urban green space, and supporting a groundbreaking program for adults with severe disabilities.  Travel back to Israel with a delegation from around the state and learn about the connection between the environment, Israel, and Judaism!
